After clinching a historic Conservative general election victory, the party has kept the Stamford and Grantham seat - with an increased majority.

Voters have elected Conservative candidate Gareth Davies the new MP for Stamford, Bourne and Grantham.

Mr Davies secured 36,794 votes to win with a comfortable majority of 26,003 over the other three candidates - Kathryn Salt (Lab) 10,791, Harrish Bisnauthsing (LD) 6,153 and Anne Gafer (GRN) 2,265.

Previous Conservative MP Nick Boles, who did not stand for election after quitting the party earlier this year and sat as an Independent Progressive Conservative until the dissolution of parliament, had a 20,094 majority.

Born in Yorkshire, Mr Davies' home is in Stamford and his office in Bourne.

In is pre-election campaign Mr Davies pledged that if elected MP he would, among others:

• work to resolve the reduction of hours at Grantham Hospital to ensure residents have access to round the clock urgent health care facilities

• seek to secure new funding for local infrastructure, such as an upgrade to the A1

• champion all schools in his constituency and seek to ensure they receive support from national government

• work to ensure Lincolnshire Police receive a fairer share of funding to help tackle crime

• push for a reduction in business rates for local independent businesses Mr Davies said he was 'completely committed' to supporting Prime Minister Boris Johnson to deliver Brexit and has been 'dismayed at the dither and delay' of some MPS who have sought to thwart the result of the 2016 Referendum.
