A long-established 'gentleman's club' in Grantham faces opposition as it seeks to renew its license.

Two objectors have submitted three letters of objection to South Kesteven District Council, whose licensing committee is due to determine the renewal on Friday.

Taboo Gentleman's Club at 99a Westgate seeks to renew its Sexual Entertainment Venue License, which it has held since 2012.

A council report prepared for the meeting says such license applications and renewals must be heard by the committee.

The report said the three objections cite:

  • The locality of the establishment and the refurbishment of the Market Square in recent years
  • Welfare concerns of those attending the establishment
  • Concern for the welfare of the dancers/performers
  • Possible links to crime, in all forms.

However, the report says there have been no objections from the police.

The applicant Mehmet Yusuf Yenibertiz says the venture has been closed for more than a year due to lockdown.

In the application dated in June, before 'Freedom Day' of July 19, he said as soon as lockdown measures are removed and as soon as his license, which expired on April 26 2021 is renewed, he would resume the business.

It would include pole dancing, striptease and similar activities as before.

The report does not give the committee a recommendation, but outlines the range of options available.

It does warn, however: "If, having considered the renewal application the committee decides to refuse it, it must provide the applicant with the reasons for the decision in writing.

"In the event of an applicant making an appeal against a decision which was then subsequently upheld, the council may incur additional legal costs."

As Nub News previously reported, Taboo faced similar opposition last year.
