A former player at Grantham College's Table Tennis Academy is set to compete for England at next month's Commonwealth Championship in India.

Twenty-one-year-old Emily Bolton has been named in a six-strong squad for the tournament, which begins on 17 July in Cuttack.

Revelling in her first senior selection Emily, who left Grantham last year, said: "I'll take a lot of pride in representing England. This is a big step, and hopefully it's just the beginning of things to come."

Emily said she was thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the college's Table Tennis Academy despite her home being more than three hours away in the Lake District.

She added: "Coming from Cumbria, there were not a lot of opportunities to practice and I spent a lot of time travelling to training.

"But having the opportunity to stay on-site at Grantham to get an education and train suited me well."
