Staff at South Kesteven District Council may find homeworking more of a permanent fixture once the lockdown is over.

Last week, Lincolnshire County Council said 5,000 of its staff would be working from home for a further six months to help protect their safety.

This week, Rutland County Council told Nub News that its staff would continue working from home in line with government guidelines.

Similarly, South Kesteven District Council says it too will work with government guidelines, but council leader Kelham Cooke adds the lockdown has 'propelled' council aims on 'agile working.'

He told Nub News: "In response to the Coronavirus outbreak we moved from about 40 staff a day working remotely, to more than 400 doing so within a few days. That's quite an achievement and a testament to the hard work of our staff who have been incredibly resilient and determined in adapting to a new way of working swiftly and under challenging circumstances.

"Working so effectively this way means that we are able to continually protect the health and wellbeing of our staff and our residents whilst still delivering essential services and supporting local businesses.

"We were already progressing towards a more agile way of working to increase efficiency and make best use of our assets and our estate. The lockdown has propelled this way of working forward, and we have shown just how agile we can be.

Coun Cooke added: "We are continually reviewing the activities of all of our services to ensure that they operate in line with Government guidance. We recognise that a small number of our office-based staff will occasionally need to work from our buildings for part of the week. Plans are in place to accommodate those needs.

"We also have a number of staff who work in our communities, including refuse collection teams and

those completing housing repairs, who are working effectively with appropriate health and safety measures in place."
