A sharp rise in Coronavirus cases has been reported across Lincolnshire and neighbouring areas.

Figures from Public Health England this afternoon revealed that Lincolnshire has 319 confirmed cases of coronavirus, compared with 277 yesterday.

Leicestershire now has 386 cases, an increase of 47 on the 339 reported yesterday.

Peterborough also saw a sharp increase from 62 to 80.

Rutland reported an increase of two from six to eight, however Rutland residents will typically be treated outside the county as it lacks suitable hospital facilities to treat the virus.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, which runs the hospitals at Grantham, Boston, Lincolnshire and Louth, reported five extra deaths at its hospitals today, which covered a 14 day period.

A statement said: "They have all been reported today due to confirmation of figures taking several days.

"The patients were three men aged between 59 and 68, and two women aged 78 and 92. All had underlying health conditions."

Nationally, Public Health England reported 60,733 cases of coronavirus, an increase of 5,491 on yesterday.

The number of deaths increased by a record 938 to 7,097 deaths.
