Grantham's first Lincolnshire Co-op faces a 'low key' opening tomorrow due to the cornavirus crisis.

The pandemic delayed the opening of the £1.5M food store off Springfield Road, but the continued need for social distancing means there will be no reed for the cutting of a ribbon.

The store, which was due to open early last month, will now open at 7am Thursday May 14 .

Among the safety measures at the store, entry will be restricted to a maximum of ten customers.

This afternoon, workmen could be seen making the finishing touches to the premises, which are situated on the corner with Hanbury Avenue.

A Co-op spokesman told Nub News the opening would be a " bit more of a toned down opening to what we normally do."

He added: "The store opens at 7am but there won't be a ribbon cutting ceremony unfortunately due to the current coronavirus restrictions we have in place."
