The offices of South Kesteven District Council are now being lit up in blue at night.

SKDC leader Kelham Cooke said on social media last night: "To all of our #NHS & front-line @southkesteven staff working tirelessly through this challenging time, thank you.

"Our building will be lit up blue each night to shine a light on your efforts and show our appreciation during this unprecedented period."

Coun Cooke also urged residents to thank council refuse collectors by waving at them.

He said: "Celebrate the great work of our waste collection crews by giving them a big wave from your windows when you spot them on their rounds this week.

"Here @southkesteven emptying the bins is a priority, redeploying other staff to keep this vital service running. #staysafe"

The council leader has also praised the council road mechanics keeping the fleet on the road.

He also advised: "Please DO NOT put used tissues in your recycling bins. Tissues/used cleaning cloths should be double bagged and disposed of in your general waste bin/bag. This is vital to keep our workers safe and prevent the spread of #Covid19 – thank you."
