More long-term foster carers and adopters are needed to look after some of the county's most vulnerable children.

Being a foster carer can be a challenging role, but it is also hugely rewarding. Long-term foster carers often speak of a sense of pride in seeing the child develop and flourish. And, in terms of practicalities, there is a fostering allowance as well as good support and training for those who provide a home for a child in need.

In addition, there is currently a particular need for adopters who can look after:

Brothers and sisters who need to be kept together

Children with disabilities and additional needs

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for children's services, said: "We're always on the lookout for people who are willing to do something extraordinary and foster or adopt a child who has had a difficult start in life.

"We welcome interest from everyone, whatever your circumstances – what's important is that you can offer a child a loving and stable home.

"Adopting or fostering a child is fulfilling – many celebrate it as the best decision of their lives. Whilst these young children may, at times, need extra love and support, there is nothing more rewarding than to see them grow and develop into young people who flourish.

"So if you've ever considered fostering or adoption, now's the perfect time to get in touch and make a real difference to a child's life."

Each application is considered on an individual basis so you can be a foster carer/adopter regardless of your marital status, sexuality, employment status, ethnicity or religion.
