What to do with your real Christmas tree and New Year bin collections

At the risk of sounding like a party pooper...the festive season will soon be behind us.

If you're wondering how to dispose of your real Christmas tree then there are several options.

You could put it out with the garden waste, take it to Grantham Recycling Centre or have it collected to support a Lincolnshire-wide charity.

South Kesteven District Council will take away your real Christmas tree for recycling if you leave it beside your paid-for green bin on the usual collection day.

If it's taller than 7ft, the council asks that you chop or saw it in half.

If you don't have a green bin then you could ask a friendly neighbour if you can leave it next to theirs.

Alternatively, dispose of your tree and other excess festive rubbish - including batteries, wrapping paper and food containers - at Grantham Recycling Centre in Mowbeck Way, Alexander Road.

The centre is open Friday to Monday from 9am to 4pm - but it is closed on New Year's Day.

Or you could recycle your Christmas tree with St Barnabas Hospice.

Simply make a donation and hospice volunteers will come and pick up your tree from Saturday, 11 January and take it to one of its supporting chippers to be recycled.

You need to register for the collection service by Monday, 6 January.

Donations - the suggested sum is £10 - go to care for and support people living with a life-limiting or terminal illness across Lincolnshire.
