A bid for more than £8 million of government funding to boost Grantham has been submitted to central government.

South Kesteven District Council has put forward a package of proposals which it hopes will help economically regenerate the town centre.

As previously reported by Nub News, the council seeks some £8.2 million from the Future High Streets Fund, which it believes will unlock a further £11.5 million in match funding from the private sector.

In a short video, produced by InvestSK, SKDC leader Kelham Cooke, brands Grantham as 'great', a 'sleeping giant; with 'great potential.'

Other leading councillors also sketch out their ambitions, citing projects to improve the area between the railway station and town centre with offices and housing.

There would also be more use of the upper floors for housing in Westgate.

Improvements would also be made to the Market Place for entertainment and cultural events.

Efforts would also be made to improve the links between Westgate and High Street, plus the park areas on St Peter's Hill, the video also said.

The bid for funding was presented to central government last week.
