Vectare making 'significant changes' to Grantham to Bingham service during Barrowby Road closure

Vectare is making 'significant' changes to its Grantham to Bingham service while Barrowby Road is closed for three months for Network Rail to carry out work on the railway bridge.

It is also cutting fares during the road closure to encourage bus usage and 'compensate' for the disruption.

The revised fares will be reviewed when the Barrowby Road railway bridge work is completed in December.

In a statement, Vectare says: "Due to the closure of the A52 Barrowby Road under Barrowby Railway Bridge in Grantham for three months from September to December 2020 we have been forced to make some significant changes in order to maintain service on the 93.

"This involves a significant diversion from the end of the Barrowby Gate estate via Dysart Road.

"As a result we will be operating a revised timetable on all days.

"Vectare would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during this disruption.

"However, we have tried to maintain the highest provision of service possible.

"As a trial until December 2020, we are introducing cheaper fares on Service 93 to encourage bus usage and compensate for the major disruption caused by the Barrowby Bridge road closure.

"These include reduced single and return fares, reduced Grantham TwoTogether fare and the introduction of family tickets at £10 for the full network and £6 Grantham."

The company advises there will be increased journey times between Grantham and Barrowby Gate on all days due to the diversion route required.

There will also be a revised route from Bingham to Grantham, with buses passing through Whatton Village.

The first journey of the day is being re-timed to arrive in Grantham at 07.44am to allow better connections for workers.

Off-peak journeys are being reduced from six to five, with some shortened to run between Barrowby Gate and Grantham Centre only.

A few off-peak journeys to/from Bingham will be retained for shopping trips in either direction, including for Bingham Market on Thursdays.

Additional late afternoon peak return journeys are being introduced from Bingham at 5.05pm and Grantham at 5.45pm.

An enhanced Saturday timetable will provide more round trips per day between Barrowby Gate and Grantham, with the first bus arriving into the town at 08.44am and the last departure at 5.15pm.

Revised timetables, fare charts and a route map are available online.

In addition, Vectare will have printed timetables available as soon as possible.

Passengers with any questions about the Service 93 changes can email [email protected] or via Facebook.

Barrowby Road will close to motorists from 6am on Tuesday (1 Sept) until Friday, 4 December.

A signposted diversionary route will be in place for motorists.

Pedestrians will be allowed to continue to walk under the bridge, but cyclists will be asked to push their bikes because of the reduced space available.

Network Rail engineers will be carrying out a £2.7m project to undertake strengthening works - repairing the steel and brickwork - as well as re-waterproofing and painting sections of both Barrowby Road and Springfield Road bridges.

Once Barrowby Road reopens, both roads will remain open over Christmas until work begins on Springfield Road bridge in January.

Springfield Road will then remain closed until the project is completed in March 2021.

Both roads will close for one weekend, on Saturday, 28 and Sunday, 29 November 2020, for work to improve drainage on both bridges.
