Tens of thousands of motorists have been fined for speeding on the Grantham by-pass, resulting in millions of pounds in fines having to be paid.
The latest speeding figures were obtained through a question asked by Grantham county councillor Ray Wootten at a recent council meeting.
His question was to this month's Overview and Management Scrutiny Board meeting of Lincolnshire County Council.
His response from Lincolnshire Highways chiefs demonstrated that many motorists were exceeding the 50mph speed limit on the A1.
The restriction has been imposed on part of the bypass in recent years as part of the roadworks concerning the construction of the £102M Grantham Southern Relief Road.
Elsewhere on the A1, as a dual-carriageway, the speed limit is typically 70mph.
The section of the by-pass where people have been caught speeding is near the planned new £100M Grantham Designer Outlet Village and the the new A52 junction being built as part of the relief road.
Coun Wootton (Con-Grantham North) was told that between the 1st April 2020 to the 31st March 2021 that 62,115 motorist have been caught speeding.
This results in a minimum £100 fine and three penalty points imposed on your licence, unless you are given the option of attending a speed awareness course.
New drivers caught speeding within 2 years of passing their test could have their driving licence revoked if 6 or more penalty points have been received.
Elsewhere in Lincolnshire, the county council revealed, 52,721 motorists have been caught speeding during the same period.
It means the Grantham by-pass was responsible for more than half of such speeding fines in the entire county.
Coun Wootten said: "Statistics have shown that 48% of motorists speed on the motorway. If you receive a section 172 notice and a Notice of Intended Prosecution through the post, please do not ignore it. Failure to return return this within 28 days can result in 6 points on your licence and up to a £1000 fine."
