A community group that plans to improve its village hall is the latest to start fund-raising through South Kesteven District Council's CrowdfundSK programme.

The Take A Seat at North Witham Village Hall project aims to raise £2,429 to re-equip the hall with more modern and manageable tables and chairs, restore pride in the building and give it a new lease of life.

They want to replace tired, heavy and mismatched furniture, including heavy trestles, stacking tables and old uncomfortable chairs with more practical, comfortable and appealing tables and chairs.

Cllr Annie Mason, SKDC Cabinet Member for Communities said: "The Coronavirus crisis has reminded us how important village halls are to local communities. I hope this appeal reaches its target, so that the hall will be in fine shape and well equipped ready for people to meet there again once current restrictions are lifted."

On 20 May donors for the North Witham project had pledged £447 - 18% towards the total - with 135 days remaining on the appeal.

The hall is described as a very old but much-loved building, and a small but valuable space for the village community to gather and enjoy each other's company.

The most popular events held there, which cross all age groups, are often food-based, including curry nights, murder mystery dinners, afternoon teas and harvest suppers.

Volunteers have already decorated the hall interior and put up new curtains and they believe new furniture will make it appealing to people looking to hire the venue.
