Repairs have been approved to a historic Grantham pub.

South Kesteven District Council has granted listed building consent to Enterprise Inns to undertake the work at the Blue Pig at 9 Vine Street.

As Nub news reported earlier, the 500-year-old inn, which is believed to be listed, needed structural repairs.

The planning application said the pub has rotting oak beams, movement and cracking of external walls and sagging ceilings.

Repairs would include removing and replacing rotten oak sections, and other 'like for like repairs'.

A council report detailing the planning approval noted support from SKDC's Historic Buildings Advisor.

They said: "The proposed works are justified in my opinion, will represent minimum intervention to and retention of

essential historic fabric and features, and will ensure stability to the deteriorated and defective parts of the building structure in an appropriate manner." Grantham Civic Society said the proposed repairs were 'satisfactory' and should be overseen by a conservation accredited professional and recorded. Council planning staff agreed the repairs be recorded and enhance the character and appearance of the listed building. They concluded: "Taking the above into account, it is considered that the proposal would preserve the special

architectural and historic interest of the affected listed buildings and is therefore in accordance with (council planning policies)."
