A Grantham carpet store can be converted into a gym.
South Kesteven District Council has approved the application concerning the Carpet Right outlet off London Road in part of the Discovery Retail Park, south of the town centre.
As Nub News previously reported, the Leeds-based company which operates 280 gyms nationally, had searched for alternative locations in Grantham, but this was the best.
A report by council planning staff said the existing 733m2 building would feature a new mezzanine level, increasing it to 1100m2 and it would use existing access and car parking.
Consultation by the council delivered one letter of representation, raising the possible impact on other gyms on the town centre and the gym increasing traffic to the site.
However, planning staff believed the application would not harm Grantham town centre or its other gyms.
They added: "The application site comprises an existing retail unit within the main built-up area of Grantham. As such, the principle of development within this location has already been established and is acceptable."
There would also be no other unacceptable impacts on the character of the area and its existing uses, therefore the change of use should be approved.
