Major Grantham road shut for three months for railway bridge repairs

Grantham motorists are set to face major disruption from today as an important through route is closed for three months to allow the strengthening of an overhead railway bridge.

Network Rail has closed the A607 Springfield Road Railway Bridge as work takes place to strengthen the railway bridge as part of a £2.7M project.

As Nub News reported recently, the scheme also includes Barrowby Road bridge. This involves repairs to the steel and brickwork, re-waterproofing the bridges, and re-painting sections of them to make sure they are fit for the future. Springfield Road is now closed to drivers after Network Rail began the upgrade works earlier today. This follows progress made from overnight road closures and one weekend road closure in November. However, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists can still use the road, which is not due to re-open until the Spring. From September 2020, Network Rail undertook similar bridge strengthening work at Barrowby Road, which also involved the road being closed for a similar length of time.
