Train services have been disrupted on the East Coast Line with passengers urged not to travel today.
An LNER spokesperson said today:"A number of Class 800 series Hitachi trains from several train companies have been taken out of service today for checks as a precautionary measure.
"This problem is being investigated by Hitachi and once trains have been checked, we hope to be able to release them back into service as soon as possible.
"This could affect a significant number of our services and passengers are advised not to travel today. For the latest information check lner.co.uk"
LNER also said on Twitter: "Due to a problem under investigation, services route wide are subject to delays and cancellations. Please DO NOT TRAVEL, tickets will be valid up to and including Sunday 16th May 2021 (a new reservation MUST be made)."
The checks follow the discovery of hairline cracks on Hitachi 800 trains last month.
More than 1,000 locomotives will need checking across the LNER and Great Western Railway fleet so major disruption could continue for some time.
As Nub News reported this morning, Hull Trains has issued a similar statement as its Hitachi trains are also checked, disrupting its services.
