More than 200 people have so far signed an online petition calling for a skateboard park to be built in Grantham.

The petition has been created by Gary Oliver, a 32-year-old father of an 18-month-old boy, who is training to be a policeman.

Gary told Nub News: "I have loved skateboarding all my life and use to skate as a teenager."

Lockdown saw Gary take up the sport again, something he would like his young son to enjoy as well.

Gary believes Wyndham Park would be the ideal venue for a skateboard park, saying it had one before and with recent improvements, the park has become a popular and inviting place to go.

Since he launched his petition at the weekend, more than 200 people have signed it.

He said: "I am overwhelmed with the positivity of it. I wasn't expecting that. I was going to let it gain momentum first."

Gary now plans to create a special Facebook group of supporters to assess support before approaching councillors about creating a skatepark.

But he added, with the way the world is working at the moment, it might take two years to get the skatepark.
