Plans for 8 homes in a village near Grantham have been withdrawn after they were opposed by a parish council.

Electrical Installations Ltd of South Witham had applied to South Kesteven District Council to build the homes on 6385m2 of farmland west of St Medards Close, Little Bytham.

If approved, the development would contain four 4-bed market homes and four 2-bed 'affordable' homes.

The application said: "The proposed development seeks to provide 8no x high quality homes in an attractive village location benefiting from a wealth of local amenities.

"It is recognised that edge of settlement developments are more sensitive in nature, therefore by carefully mirroring the general scale, materials and form of the existing houses in close proximity, it will ensure any new development is appropriate to its location, and makes a lasting, positive contribution to Little Bytham."

It also concluded: "Smaller villages have a vital role to play in delivering much needed additional housing, and the proposed scheme presents a unique opportunity for small scale, considered development that will meet various local housing needs.

"A balanced combination of both affordable and market housing seeks to make the proposed development accessible for a variety of potential buyers, which in turn helps to create a more diverse village community."

However, Little Bytham Parish Council said it did not support the outline planning application.

"This represents development outside the settlement of a small village problems with sewage in the area.

"The proposed scheme breaches the SKDC local plan for small villages.

"The proposed Terrace of four, two bed properties with very small gardens is totally out of keeping with significant existing affordable housing already in the village."

"The proposed four terraced properties are indicated to be sited in an area smaller than the plots for a single dwelling. This stark disparity is not in keeping with the local community which values and respects all its residents."

The parish council added: "In the last year alone, eight new properties have been approved in Little Bytham, with two more currently in the planning process, these range from one to four bedroom dwellings.

"Any local need appears to already be catered for, without utilising edge of settlement and extending obtrusively into the open countryside."
