Plans have been approved by South Kesteven District to build 43 supported living apartments in Gorse Lane, Grantham.

The application at the former Chandos Care Home was approved by members of the council's planning committee last week.

As reported by Nub News recently, the application for the three-storey block was submitted by Flagtree Developments Ltd.

The flats, said a council report, "supported housing for the elderly and other adults with disabilities."

Such accommodation, it continued, would allow residents to live as normal and independent lives as possible.

They would be let on assured tenancies funded through Housing Benefit rents and managed by a social housing provider.

Some nearby residents had opposed the scheme, leading to plans to be amended and made less intensive.

However, councillors on the planning committee agreed with planning officers and voted to approve the scheme.

Planning Committee last week also approved eight industrial starter units at 1 Ruston Road, Alma Park Industrial Estate, Grantham.

As reported recently by Nub News, some 22 jobs could be created by the scheme.

Members agreed with planning officers that the scheme met council planning objectives, including the generation of employment.
