A historic Grantham coaching inn, which has been serving guests for more than 800 years, may receive recognition with a blue plaque.

Grantham Civic Society has applied to South Kesteven District Council to erect the plaque on the front west side of the Angel & Royal Inn at 3 High Street.

The plaque, continued the application, would celebrate the hotel's 'significant royal connections' and its importance to those travelling north.

The civic society says the Grade 1 listed building has has received visits from royalty, including Richard III in 1483, Charles I in 1633, George IV on numerous occasions and Edward VII in 1866, when he was Prince of Wales.

Further details of the hotel's history can be found here.

SKDC has yet to determine the application.
