Further closures of the A1 are planned this month as work continues on the £102Million Grantham Southern relief Road.

In an update on the much-needed major project, Lincolnshire County Council also said the scheme this month will see work start on bridge foundations on Phase Three.

Phase Three is the section between the roundabout on the B1174 to the the A52 at Somerby Hill.

The overall 3.5km route from the A1 is due for completion in Winter 2023.

In their update, Lincolnshire County Council reported:

• Continued works to underside of new underpass
• Completed earthworks near the old underpass
• Continued drainage and ducting works / street lighting and signage installation across the entire site
• Started safety barrier installation
• Completed road surfacing up to the southbound slip road
• Began surfacing, water channel installation and verge works / continue ducting, signage and street light installation on the A1

• Installed below-ground embankment monitoring equipment / continue embankment construction / installed new haul road bridge / tested piling foundations on the west side of site
• Continued bulk earthworks and rock processing on east side of site
• Continued post-excavation archaeological reporting

Phase Two

• Continue works to underside of new underpass
• Continue drainage and ducting works / street lighting and signage installation across the entire site
• Continue safety barrier installation and begin verge works/fencing installation
• Continue surfacing, water channel installation and verge works / continue ducting, signage and street light installation on the A1

Phase Three

• Fill embankments up to the west embankment / carry out ground investigation works at the bridge piers / begin installation of foundational concrete columns for new bridge / began constructing the foundation for second temporary bridge on the west side of site
• Construct reinforced embankment / continued rock processing / begin construction machinery crossing on east side of site
• Continue post-excavation archaeological reporting

• 50mph speed limit and narrowed lanes on the A1 between Harlaxton to Little Ponton
• On-going lane closures on the B1174 roundabout until the end of the scheme

• Northbound A1 closure between Little Ponton and Harlaxton from Monday 6 to Friday 10 September, 8pm to 6am
• Southbound A1 closure between Little Ponton and Harlaxton from Monday 13 to Friday 24 September, weeknights only, 8pm to 6am
• Northbound A1 closure between Little Ponton and Harlaxton from Saturday 25 to Thursday 30 September, 8pm to 6am
• Weekend closure of Whalebone Lane from the night of Friday 24 September to the night of Sunday 26 September for construction of a heavy plant crossing
