Grantham: Chaos and shortages at town petrol stations as police issue appeal

It was chaos at petrol stations in Grantham today as motorists increasingly sought to fill up amid growing reports of panic buying.

Early this morning, Nub News heard reports that there was no petrol to be had in Grantham.

That appeared to be the case in Melton Mowbray this morning where we were unable to buy unleaded at the town's Tesco store, two BPs and an Esso.

No fuel was apparently available at both the filling stations in Bingham, nor at the BP at Marston or at Gonerby Moor Service Station.

Fortunately petrol was available at Asda on Sankt Augustin Way but by 2pm motorists were restricted to £30 worth, as I was.

Sainsbury's on London Road had sold out this afternoon but there were long queues at the nearby Esso. The BP on Bridge End Road had smaller queues by 3pm.

Today, Lincolnshire Police issued an appeal.

"We have received reports this morning of long queues at some petrol stations in the county.

"This is a potential hazard for vehicles making other journeys, and may cause difficulties for emergency services trying to reach people in need.

"While we appreciate that some people may be particularly keen to fill up their vehicles this weekend, we would respectfully ask motorists to be sensible when making judgements about joining a queue at a petrol station.

"If it is too long, consider returning at a different time."

Obviously, this is a fast changing situation, but good luck everyone!
