Grantham Bowl re-opens but no date yet on Fun Farm

By The Editor 19th Aug 2020

Grantham Bowl has successfully re-opened after months of closure due to the pandemic.

But its Fun Farm soft play centre still does not have a planned re-opening date.

Grantham Bowl was due to open at the start of the month, but as Nub News previously reported , Prime Minister Boris Johnson delayed such re-openings by two weeks- giving them barely 24 hours notice.

However, the venue off Dysart Road was back in business on Saturday morning, as allowed by central government.

Owener of Grantham Bowl, Karen Slator, told Nub News: "The re-opening has been really good. We have been really busy. We are very pleased to be back. The staff are keen to be back. The customers are all nice and loving it. They have been missing us."

Furthermore, people have been good about new measures to ensure the venue is Covid-compliant such as pre-booking being essential, staggered times on lanes, and the use of alternate lanes.

However, the related Fun Farm soft play centre still has no re-opening date, even though the such centres were also able to re-open on Saturday August 15.

Karen says she is still working out how to comply with 23 pages of guidelines to ensure the safety of the Fun Farm, as recently, she has been focussed on the bowling alley.

"We are working through everything with regards to Fun Farm. We do not want to rush it and get it wrong."

"We are going to do it (Fun Farm) sensibly and calmly we are completely with the stringent regulations. We well get there."

Karen expects such "elaborate rules" means it will be at least a week before Fun Farm can re-open.

The related Laser Storm laser gun game, which uses Fun Farm, cannot be booked for parties under current government legislation.

But it maybe possible to use it in future for group bookings.

Karen said: "That is something we have to walk through when the soft pay opens."

In the meantime, the venue is running car boot sales over the summer months, during Tuesdays and Thursday. Even though they have had a quiet start, Karen added those who have been, have enjoyed them.
