A village south of Grantham looks set to expand significantly, if plans for 199 homes are approved.

Leicester-based David Wilson Homes seeks to build on 8.53ha (21 acres) of open farmland to the south-east of Corby Glen.

The site is bounded by Bourne Road to the north-east, Swinstead Road to the west, and also lies adjacent to the recently-approved Larkfleet Homes Development to the north.

The planning application to South Kesteven District Council says the site comprises two irregular shaped fields surrounded by hedgerows and trees.

It continued: "The site is identified within the South Kesteven Local Plan (LV-H5: Swinstead Road/ Bourne Road) as an allocation for residential development, providing approximately 250 dwellings.

"In January 2021, the Council approved a full application for 66 dwellings on behalf of Larkfleet Homes (Reference: S19/2235) on the northern two parcels of the allocation.

"This full application, on behalf of David Wilson Homes, is in relation to the remainder of the allocation and will deliver 199 dwellings (including 60 affordable homes in accordance with policy requirement."

The proposed development would be close to local facilities and it underwent an extensive consultation and design process, involving Corby Glen Parish Council and South Kesteven District Council, the application continued.

The open market housing would be made up of 10 2-bed homes, 60 3-bed homes and 69 4/5-bed homes. The 30 per cent affordable housing would be made up of 4 1-bed homes, 30 2-bed homes, 21 3-bed homes and 5 4-bed homes.

They would be built in brick to reflect existing housing in Corby Glen.

Some 2.62ha or 30.7% of the site would be green open space of various forms.

The scheme would meet Building for a Healthy Life principles, it added, "which will deliver a traditionally inspired housing development where people want to live.

"On design grounds we believe the application accords with policy requirements."

South Kesteven District Council will determine the application at a later date.
