Four flats look set to be created in the former home of GravityFM radio station.

Planning staff for South Kesteven District Council are recommending that councillors approve the scheme when its planning committee determines the application next week.

The application will come before councillors on Wednesday August 5 as the applicant is the council itself.

As Nub News reported previously, SKDC wants to use the flats as temporary accommodation.

The scheme concerns converting the existing commercial premises at New Lodge, Riverside Walk, demolishing nearby garages and extending the existing building to create the one-bed flats.

A council report prepared for the committee meeting says issues to consider include the principle of the use, its impact on the character of the area and neighbouring properties and highways issues.

Officers recommend conditional approval.

Their report says the site on the east side of Riverside Walk and west of the public footpath, which runs by the River Witham, is within the defined Grantham Conservation area.

There is an existing building on-site, formerly used as a radio station, and also as a house previously.

The site has already received permitted development rights to change its use from offices to housing.

Consultation with the public and other groups saw no objections raised.

Recommending approval, the officers' report concluded: "The proposed development would create four new residential flats in a very sustainable location for new housing.

"There would be no harm to surrounding heritage assets nor the character of the area and the development provides an acceptable standard of amenity for the occupiers of the proposed flats and neighbouring properties."
