South Kesteven District Council is marking the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, the day Japan announced its surrender to Allied Forces, bringing an end to the Second World War.

A commemorative flag was raised yesterday by Council Chairman Cllr Jacky Smith, supported by MP Gareth Davies (right).

Cllr Smith said: "This event will provide us with an opportunity to remember those service personnel who gave their lives both at home and abroad to secure our freedom today."

Grantham Mayor Adam Stokes was also 'delighted' to attend the flag raising with Deputy Mayor Dean Ward.

As previously reported by Nub News, SKDC is also marking the anniversary online, featuring Grantham photographer Walter Lee.
