Family fun day in Grantham's Wyndham Park
A family fun day is being held in Grantham's World War One memorial park this month as part of this year's Heritage Open Days programme.
The event in Wyndham Park will run from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, 22 September, featuring pony rides, a dog show with fun classes, inflatables, stalls, children's activities and sports.
An outdoor gym, funded by the Rotary Club of Grantham, was installed in the park earlier this year and the latest attractions, which will be unveiled at the fun day, include pay-as-you-play model boats and outdoor table tennis tables, in partnership with the town's Cliffedale Chandlers Table Tennis Club.
Billed as England's biggest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days are held every September and bring together more than 2,000 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers.
The 2019 theme is People Power and will celebrate the contribution made by volunteers. The Wyndham Park event is supported by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS).
South Kesteven District Council's Cabinet Member for Commercial and Operations Coun Dr Peter Moseley said: "The commitment and dedication of volunteers is vital to events and organisations throughout South Kesteven.
"The Wyndham Park Forum is a great example. Its members make a huge contribution to the success of the park, ensuring it continues to look its best and be a great place to visit."
LCVS area organiser Jody Raggo said: "As this year's theme is People Power, we thought it would be fitting to get involved by showcasing and celebrating some of the extraordinary and selfless work that volunteers do within the Grantham community and to say thank you.
"We will also be highlighting the numerous volunteering opportunities that people can get involved in."
The fun day will mark the first anniversary of the completion of a £1m project to restore Wyndham to its former glory as a World War One memorial park, made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Improvements to the park included building a visitor centre with public toilets and reception facilities, refurbishing the Memorial Arch, shelter, model boat lake and former ticket office as well as creating a dedicated meeting space for volunteers, interpretation boards that highlight items of historical and ecological importance, seating, signs, CCTV and lighting.
From 11am visitors can register their pets for the dog show being organised by Jerry Green Dog Rescue. Classes start at noon and include waggiest tail, loveliest lady, handsome chap, cutest puppy, golden oldie, best biscuit catcher, terrific trick and best rescue.
