The demolition of Grantham's formner Fenland Foods plant can now go ahead.

Planners at South Kesteven District Council have approved the work off Turnpike Close and Swingbridge Road.

As reported previously by Nub News , the work is to prepare the site for redevelopment.

The applicants, Brackley Developments, hope to start work on the site in August. It has agreed to meet a range of conditions with the council.

A council report said: "The proposed method of demolition of the building as well as the disposal of the resulting

waste is considered to be acceptable. It is recommended that prior approval is not required in this instance." The premises closed in 2008 with the loss of 700 jobs and has been empty for the past 12 years. Then, owner Northern Foods discontinued production at the site after Marks & Spencer withdrew production of its Italian ready meal products from Fenland Foods.
