Councillors have today confirmed their refusal of plans for a traveller site in a village north of Grantham.

The planning committee of South Kesteven District Council voted recently that they were 'minded' to refuse an application concerning land north of Bennington Bait, Valley Lane, Long Bennington.

Applicant Sam Smith of St Clements Court, Leicestershire, sought to change of use of the land to "a travellers' site for the provision of one mobile home and one touring caravan for a forestry worker."

As Nub News reported recently, he faced a range of opposition from councillors and nearby residents alike.

Today, members reaffirmed that opposition, with Coun Penny Milnes (Ind- Loveden Heath) again warning that approval for the scheme could lead to similar 'pop-up' traveller site developments across the district and she questioned whether anyone else would be able to gain approval for a caravan site at the location.

The committee confirmed its earlier decision to refuse the scheme, also saying this was due to the design, siting and layout of the application which had no local characteristics.

It was also not of a high enough standard expected for traveller sites, members decided.
