Councillors confirm refusal of Grantham housing scheme

Councillors have today confirmed their refusal of a housing scheme in a residential part of Grantham.

As Nub News recently reported, the unpopular application concerned a small site east of Stamford Street, where a terrace of three homes without parking is proposed.

Last month, members of the planning committee of South Kesteven District Council voted to say they were 'minded' to refuse the scheme, citing reasons such as traffic concerns, it being not in keeping with the area and potential impact on visual amenity.

Their decision followed ward councillor Adam Stokes (Con-Springfield) 'calling in' the application from Nottingham-based Spencer Construction so councillors rather SKDC planning staff would determine the application.

Today's meeting of the SKDC planning committee confirmed their vote of a month ago.

Coun Robert Reid, the Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said three houses at the site was 'over development' and the committee should uphold its reasons for refusal.

Coun Reid (Con- Bourne Austerby) also noted the scheme was also "trying to squeeze three properties with no parking in a congested area."

Coun Rosemarry Kaberry-Brown (Con- Peascliffe & Ridgeway) said she wanted the site used for recreation.

"Three houses in there. It beggars belief," she added.
