There are currently 16 patients being treated for coronavirus at hospitals in Greater Lincolnshire.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed today (Monday the 21st) that it now has seven cases in its Lincoln or Boston sites.

No cases are at Grantham, which the trust declared a Covid-free 'green' site, so it can focus on other treatments.

Meanwhile, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation confirmed nine cases across the trust which covers Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

The latest figures are double the number of hospital patients which had been confirmed last Wednesday, when there were eight across the two trusts – five at NLAG and three at ULHT.

Two weeks ago there were no COVID-19 patients in any Greater Lincolnshire hospitals.

This follows the news that there were 55 new coronavirus cases confirmed across Greater Lincolnshire over the weekend.

Earlier today, the government's chief scientific and medical officers said the UK has "got to get in control" of COVID-19 as cases continue to rise.

Cases nationally are currently doubling every seven days and hospitalisations are expected to increase in line with that very soon.

There was a warning cases could rise to 50,000 per day and 200 deaths daily if action wasn't taken.
