Coronavirus crisis: Now, Corby Glen Sheep Fair is cancelled
The coronavirus crisis has claimed another victim this week in South Kesteven's social calendar.
The Corby Glen Sheep Fair, which dates back to 1238, and is believed to be the oldest such fair in the country has been cancelled due to the pandemic.
Sheep fair chairman Keith Raby has made the announcement on the fair's website.
He said: "As I am sure that everybody is aware, although restrictions have been relaxed we are still very much in the middle of this pandemic.
"After much deliberation the committee has decided that it woulld be impossible to keep everyone safe and follow Covid-19 guidelines at the Sheep Fair event.
"It is with regret that we have CANCELLED the Corby Glen Sheep Fair 2020."
The event was due to be held in the village on Sunday October 4 from 10am to 4pm.
Keith continued: "Unless we are instructed otherwise the sheep sales at the 14th September and 5th October will go ahead as planned, so please give them your support."
He added: "This news is obviously disappointing but lets look forward to a great Sheep Fair in 2021."
The news follows the cancellation this week of the Grantham beer festival which was also due to be held in October.
Grantham's major Gravity Fields event, due in September has also been cancelled, adding to the long roll-call of cancelled events due to the pandemic.
