Coronavirus crisis: How Finkins keeps on feeding Grantham through lockdown

A popular Grantham café/restaurant is keeping busy with its take-aways and home deliveries.
Finkins Deli opened in High Street in November 2018 in the former Wellington's Kitchen & Bar and has grown to include a 'Shake and Waffle' bar next door.
The ventures are run by Karen Middleton, who previously had Capuccino's in the George Centre and daughter Amy Dixon, of the Brunch take-away in Alma Park.
Karen told Grantham Nub News that the staff are part of the big family in the family-run business.
She says the business is different to others in that it is not tied to any brand of tea or coffee. Drinks can be adapted to suit all tastes and diets and people know they can get exactly what they are looking for at Finkins.
The lockdown, Karen continues, has not impacted the business too greatly. It has simply adjusted what it was doing, but on a smaller scale with take-aways and deliveries.
"The main thing that has been popular are the afternoon teas we decided that this was a nice idea as a gift for a birthday anniversary or special occasion that could be delivered to another member of the family or friend etc .
"People order through our Facebook page or via telephone and we raise an online invoice and send to their email where they pay online contactless and safe.
"We deliver to the doorstep knock the door and then stand back at the car for the customer to answer. All the cars carry sanitiser and gloves so all is done within government guidelines."
Safety is also ensured as the staff do not come into contact with anyone.
Finkins has also developed a delivery menu and from that came its daily specials with Fish and Chip Friday being one of them.
"We have a pie day, burger day and all our meals are home-made, including lasagne, hot pot chilli. Etc. We deliver regularly to older people, where their family order hot meals for them, people who find it difficult to get out and about."
Karen says business has been 'steady' with home made Sunday lunches being their most popular.
"They have received great reviews because they are all home-made, including the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings."
When the lockdown eventually ends, Karen believes the delivery service will continue as people will still want it.
"We have gained a lot of new customers who enjoy having their meals delivered, especially the older generation."
In the meantime, Karen wants to thank customers new and old for supporting the business, including those from afar, who have ordered meals to ensure a loved one is having a decent meal.
"This has been so comforting for the customer and it's been very rewarding for the staff as well to know that they are doing a good deed for someone. It makes it all worthwhile in these uncertain times."
