An opening date for Lincolnshire's tips to begin taking green waste and wood has been confirmed.

Lincolnshire County Council waste recycling centres will allow their first visitors on Monday, May 18.

Grantham's tip is on Mowbeck Way and the county also operates a waste recycling centre on South Fen Road, Bourne.

The authority has launched an online system with the first bookings taken from 10 am on Monday, May 11.

Council leader Martin Hill said: "I'm sure you will welcome the news that we are preparing to open up our household waste and recycling centres once again.

"The centres will not be running in the same way as before the coronavirus pandemic.

"Because we need to continue with social distancing, initially we will have to restrict what we accept to just garden waste and wood."

He urged people not to worry about slots filing up quickly, adding that more slots would be available.

He added the council would be looking to take other kinds of waste over the next few weeks.

Those visiting the sites will need to bring identification and proof of residence in the county and will be asked to take their own garden waste and wood from their cars to the skips.

Pick-up trucks or vans will not be allowed at the sites.
