Patients are now being treated for coronavirus at Grantham hospital.

However, one hospital campaign group say its staff lack sufficient equipment to treat patients safely, without the risk of catching the virus themselves.

But another group of hospital campaigners say they have checked with staff and they have sufficient equipment.

Hospital bosses also say they have enough equipment to ensure staff safety.

Melissa Darcey of the Fighting 4 Life Lincolnshire group today launched a fundraising campaign to buy the essential Personal Protective Equipment or PPE.

Melissa posted on Facebook: "It has been brought to my attention that our heroes at Grantham Hospital are treating patients who are positive with Covid-19 without the proper protective equipment!

"Our staff have access to:

Aprons (not gowns)

Gloves (only to the wrist, not arms length)

Surgical masks (not filtered masks)

Goggles (only to be used when a patient is coughing)

"We need to protect our frontline NHS staff so the monies raised from this fund raiser will be used to purchase and supply our frontline heroes with some extra protection!

"Please support and share, save our NHS staff and save lives!

"Why I'm raising money:

Our NHS heroes need protection in order to save our lives! "How donations will be used:

The money will be used to purchase personal protection for frontline staff working hard to save our lives.

"Thank you so much for all your help, we must all stick together in order to protect each other!"

Jody Clark of Fighting 4 Grantham Hospital told Grantham Nub News: "We checked with staff and they say they have adequate PPE."

The staff response is attached in the picture.

A spokesman for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust told Grantham Nub News: "We have sufficient supplies of personal protective equipment for staff across all of our sites, including Grantham and District Hospital."
