Coronavirus crisis: Grantham adult day centre faces fewer hours as council closes others

By The Editor 25th Mar 2020

Lincolnshire County Council is to keep open its adult day centre in Grantham, despite closing nine others.

The county council made the move blaming falling numbers created by people self-isolating.

Stamford, Gainsborough, Market Rasen, Skegness, Boston, Horncastle, Louth, Sleaford and Spalding centres have all been closed by the authority.

Council leader Martin Hill said the authority had been continuing to protect services for the most vulnerable but had taken the decision due to the falling numbers.

"Although these are difficult decisions, they are the right ones," he said.

Grantham, Ancaster and Mablethorpe centres will remain open on reduced hours, however, for a select few users with no other source of care.

Councillor Hill said the authority was continuing to act "quickly and flexibly to the situation."

The authority has also reported some difficulties with transport to schools in some areas.

Chief executive Debbie Barnes confirmed transport could be significantly reduced due to the staffing levels of contracted providers.

She advised parents to accompany children to pick up points in case there were difficulties.
