Another bumper day for cases has seen Greater Lincolnshire pass the 1,100 mark just nine days into October.

The UK coronavirus dashboard showed 139 cases on Friday, meaning there have been 724 since Monday and 1,117 for the month.

Today's figures include 90 in Lincolnshire, another 24 in North Lincolnshire, and 25 in North East Lincolnshire.

There were 820 cases for the whole of September, a 400% increase on August numbers.

NHS figures showed no further deaths in Greater Lincolnshire hospitals today.

However, the government's own death tally, which includes those both in and out of hospitals and those of residents in hospitals outside the county, showed three new deaths in its figures.

This means there have been 12 deaths recorded by government since the beginning of the month, of which seven have occurred in hospitals across the region.

Health bosses in Lincolnshire said they were "nervous" after a steep rise in cases in Nottinghamshire which saw it rise to the top of the infection rate league with 689.1 cases per 100,000 people.

In the Newark and Sherwood district alone, the number of positive cases per 100,000 people is 176.9, which is well above the government threshold for intervention.

The neighbouring county is understood to be facing tougher lockdown restrictions when a new COVID-19 alert system is brought in next week.

Police and councils across Greater Lincolnshire have also been given a chunk of a national £60 million pot to help enforce stricter rules.

At least 30 coronavirus cases have been linked to an outbreak at a bacon and gammon slicing factory in Scunthorpe.

New testing centres have opened in Lincoln and Grimsby, however, health bosses are continuing to urge top dogs in government for more.

At least six students have also tested positive for coronavirus at the University of Lincoln, just days before the new term begins.

As of this week, more than 60 schools and higher education facilities across Greater Lincolnshire have confirmed cases of coronavirus since the new term started.

On Friday, chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that employees will get two thirds of their wages paid for by the government if their workplace is forced to close because of coronavirus restrictions.

Nationally, cases increased by 13,864 to 575,679 while deaths increased by 87 to 42,679.

The 3962 for Lincolnshire is equivalent to 520.5 cases per 100,000 of population.

This compares with an England average of 873.1 cases per 100,000 of population, based on its 491,428 cases.

Leicester now reports 7760 cases, or 2190.7 per 100,000. This is an increase of 95 since yesterday.

This figure gives a rate more than four times that of Lincolnshire and almost five times that of South Kesteven. It is more than five times the Rutland rate.

Leicestershire now has 5750 confirmed cases, giving a rate of 814.3 cases per 100,000. This stems from a massive increase of 81 since yesterday.

Melton is up 7 to 327 today, with a rate today of 638.6 cases per 100,000.

Peterborough is up 19 to 2023 or 1000.2 cases per 100,000.

Rutland is up 9 today, at 200, giving it a rate of 500.9 cases per 100,000.

South Holland is up 9 at 807, with a rate of 849.3 cases per 100,000.

And South Kesteven is up 23 today at 735, giving it a rate of 516.1 cases per 100,000.
