Coronavirus crisis: Grantham county councillor chairs first 'virtual meeting'

3rd May 2020 | Local News

This week, I chaired the first virtual meeting of Lincolnshire County Council Overview and Scrutiny Committee which was broadcast live using Microsoft Teams.

This enabled me to have contact with 24 members and officers across the County.

On Thursday, we scrutinised the Lincolnshire County Council Corporate Plan, Post 16 transport, the Annual Scrutiny report and the Scrutiny review.

The challenge that I had was using a mixture of iPads and home computer along with examining printed papers.

Prior to this meeting I along with Councillor colleagues had a number of training sessions and carried out a pre-meeting run.

Thursday's success was an example of team work, all working together supporting each other to which I thank the county council Democratic Officers.

Future South Kesteven District Council meetings will be carried out using Skype so it will be interesting to compare both methods.

The advantage of remote working if carried forward once the pandemic is over will be less time travelling to Lincoln.

Although (Coun) Linda (Wootten) and I are working from home we are still dealing with residents enquiries with planning, Highways and policing being the main issues.

In addition we are helping with residents shopping and delivering prescriptions and keep in contact with Parish Councils

It was a privilege to be the first Councillor to chair a virtual meeting but more importantly I paid tribute to our NHS staff and key workers and our condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
