Rob Atkinson has joined The Gingerbreads following his release from Spennymoor Town.

The 6ft 1 inch tall defender made 23 appearances for the Vanarama National League North side last season, after joining the County Durham side from Bradford Park Avenue.

Before his dropping into non-league, James appeared in the Football League for Barnsley, Rochdale, Grimsby Town and Accrington Stanley, as well as winning promotion to the Football League with Fleetwood Town. He also represented the England C side twice in 2011.

Welcoming Rob to the club Gingerbreads joint-manager Paul Rawden said: "Getting Rob in has added an experienced player with know-how to the squad.

"With Rob being part of the upper end of the non-league pyramid over the last few seasons, as well as his background in the Football League, he will be brilliant for the younger players in the squad."

Rob added "I'm really pleased to be here. Paul has really sold what his vision is for the season. Meeting the lads was really good, everyone is in great spirits and is ready to get going."
