The A1 southbound and the A1 northbound are still closed near Grantham due to flooding in the aftermath of Storm Dennis.

Highways England has confirmed that southbound carriageway, which was first closed off at 6.30am, remains closed between between Long Bennington North turn-off and Long Bennington South turn-off. The northbound carriageway is also inaccessible between the A52 and Valley Lane Long Bennington/Cotham turn-off).

Detours are in operation and southbound motorists are being asked to exit the A1 at Newark and travel south westerly on the A46 to Saxondale. At the A52 travel east to re-join the A1 at Grantham. Anyone travelling northbound should take the same route in reverse.

The road closures come after the UK felt the full force of Storm Dennis, with some areas being hit by torrential downpours and more than a month's worth of rain in 48 hours as well as strong winds reaching up to 80mph.

The Environment Agency confirmed that there were a record 594 flood warnings and alerts in force across England for Sunday.
