Grantham stores announce closing down sales

Two Grantham stores have announced closing down sales.

Banners advertising the sales could be seen in the shop windows of Peacocks in the Isaac Newton Shopping Centre and Bonmarche in High Street yesterday.

Both shops are subsidiaries of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM) group.

On Friday, EWM said it has filed a notice to seek administrators due to bad trading conditions it blames on the pandemic.

Nationally, some 21,000 jobs are at stake, as a buyer is sought. If the company goes under and all the jobs are lost it will be Britain's largest business casualty so far.

Bon Marche has already faced uncertainty but re-opened in August after the lockdown, as reported by Nub News. It was taken over by Peacock's in February after falling into administration last October.
