South Kesteven has joined in with the tributes being paid to Sir Captain Tom Moore who sadly died yesterday.

Today, the union flag is flaying at half mast at the offices of South Kesteven District Council.

SKDC chairman Coun Breda Rae Griffin said on twitter: "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. He was an inspiration not only to us here in this country but also to people around the world."

Council leader Kelham Cooke said on twitter last night : "Such sad news, a real hero. RIP Captain Tom."

Grantham & Stamford MP Gareth Davies also commented: "A remarkable life, a remarkable man. Rest in peace Captain Tom."

The 100-year-old, who raised almost £33m for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden, was admitted to Bedford Hospital on Sunday and later died with Coronavirus.

The Queen led tributes to Captain Sir Tom, "recognising the inspiration he provided for the whole nation and others across the world".

His daughters said they "shared laughter and tears" with their father in their final few hours together.

Announcing his death, Hannah Ingram-Moore and Lucy Teixeira said the last year of their dad's life was "nothing short of remarkable".

Sir Tom tested positive for Covid-19 last week. His family said due to other medication he was taking for pneumonia, he could not be vaccinated

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to lead a clap for Sir Tom at 6pm tonight, with the country urged to stand on their doorsteps and applaud Sir Tom as millions did to show support for NHS and other emergency workers last year.
