A major town centre Grantham gym has announced its liquidation.

Feelgood Fitness in the George Centre made the announcement on Facebook last night (see attached statement).

Owner Dave Wright said: "Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lack of rent and service charge relief from the landlord, it is with the deepest regret and sadness that Feelgood Fitness is going into liquidation."

Mr Wright spoke of the operation of the business which began 14 years ago, and underwent a major expansion in 2018, and its contribution to the George Shopping Centre.

He continued: "Many great friendships have been forged and memories created that no doubt will last a lifetime. But putting the financial implications aside, it is these memories that hurt the most and why this is one of the hardest and saddest decisions that we have had to make."

Mr Wright also noted other high street businesses, naming national brands, also currently facing economic troubles.

But he added Oceans health and fitness club on Dysart Road has agreed to honour all Feelgood Fitness memberships until the end of their term.

Australian-born Mr Wright also created Myzone , a wearable technology firm that aims to encourage people to exercise.

The news has been met with heartbreak and sadness.

Susan Winters said: "I feel for you all, not just a gym but a community. A huge thank you to Dave Ads and everyone else who have tried to " carry on" Hopefully I will see some of you again soon. Take care and keep fit and strong "

Anna Wesolowska said: "This news is heartbreaking Maciek can't wait to come back to the gym after coronavirus is finish....We just want to wish Feelgood fitness Staff all the best and say a BIG THANK YOU for your effort Stay strong guysâ¤."

Brian Lawrence said: "A truly sad loss to he community, I hope that ALL staff are able to gain a position befitting their outstanding skills at Oceans. Those early morning starts, advice and banter will be missed. I hope that ALL members feel able to make the transition across."
