Coronavirus crisis: Grantham pub closes due to pandemic restrictions

A Grantham pub noted for its music scene has announced it is closing.
Brothers John and Neil Cockcroft of The Castlegate have operated the popular venue after 33 years.
They described their career on social media as "a wild and wonderful ride."
The pair also offered thanks to customers for their support over the decades.
The closure has been blamed on the pandemic and related restrictions that prevented the venue at 69 Castlegate Drive from re-opening.
A sign at the pub (attached) explains the reasoning.
John told Nub News that the layout of the venue prevented a one way system.
While the government has offered some financial support to pubs, restrictions over social distancing have made it too difficult for some to re-open.
John continued: "I'm just disappointed where licensees like us are left with no business."
John said he and his bother Neil are in their sixties and they will retire.
As for the future of the freehold pub, "who knows?"
Reflecting on its reputation as a music venue, he added: "We can't have things like that any more."
