A Grantham teacher plans to run 10 km a day every day in April to mark ten years since he was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Gareth Bennett is currently in training for the event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research.
The teacher explained: "I chose 10km a day as it seemed appropriate as it will be 10 years on since my cancer and it had to be in April as I wanted to think that 10 years on exactly to the month of diagnosis that I had come a long way from having cancer to now doing something positive to help others.
"My two children, Nelson and Darwin, aged 6 and 4, have both been out running with me to 'help' with the training and they both want to do a little part of some of the runs in April.
"My wife has been an amazing support throughout and she is also planning to set herself a challenge of her own for April.
He continued: "I have also had lots of offers of support runners to help keep me motivated – obviously this will depend on the Covid restrictions as to what can happen.
"When I had my cancer, I was lucky to have the support of family and friends plus the excellent support provided by Macmillan."
The teacher at KGGS has created a JustGiving Page for anyone who wishes to support him.
He has also created a Facebook page to document my training and progress during April called 'April challenge'.
Gareth added: "As a school teacher at KGGS, I have invited students, staff, family and friends to get involved by setting their own challenges in April.
"This could be to run or walk a 10km in a day or a week or something else that they would like to challenge themselves to do and I am hoping it will raise awareness and promote people to set challenges and get active in these challenging times.
"Previously, I have done the Three peaks challenge in 24 hours with family and friends to raise money for Cancer research, and have done the Great North run half marathon for Bowel Cancer UK, so now I am looking to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support in a time that has been so difficult for charities to raise their much needed funds for their amazing work.
