Planning staff at South Kesteven District Council have turned down a housing development in a village north of Grantham.

The refusal for for an outline application for nine homes from a Mr M North of Casthorpe Road, Barrowby, who sought to build the homes in Syston.

As previously reported by Nub News, the scheme concerned a 0.6ha site is at Gipple Farm Cottages, Heath Lane, Barkston, on land on the west side of High Dyke.

If approved, there would be eight three-bed homes and one four-bed home.

However, Barkston and Syston Parish Council told SKDC that the scheme was actually off High Dyke, Syston, not in Barkston.

It was also inappropriate development in open countryside, they continued, which needed access off a fast and dangerous section of the B6403.

Therefore, it 'strongly objects' to the outline application, the parish council told the planners.

In a report, SKDC planning staff commented: "The proposal due to its siting would result in inappropriate and unsustainable development in the open countryside and it therefore conflicts with South Kesteven Local Plan Policies."

Recommending refusal, they also noted the development would be affected by noise from a nearby airfield. The application also contained insufficient information about mining, which would affect the development site.

The officers concluded: "There is a fundamental objection to the proposal and it is considered that this cannot be overcome. Consideration has not been delayed by discussions which cannot resolve the reasons for refusal."
