Forestry England has removed the swastikas spray-painted by vandals in Twyford Wood.

Vandals struck at the Forestry England-owned woodland, near Colsterworth, sometime between Sunday and yesterday (Mon) defacing a number of items - including a bench commemorating D-Day heroes - with swastikas using white and silver spray-paint.

Forestry England swiftly assessed the damage and confirmed the symbols had been cleaned off earlier today (Tues).

A Forestry England spokesman told Grantham Nub News this morning: "We are appalled at the vandalism that took place in Twyford Wood recently, which saw parts of the forest defaced, including a commemorative bench honouring soldiers who flew from RAF North Witham – now Twyford Wood – to be part of the D-Day landing in 1944.

"We urge anyone who has seen anything suspicious to come forward to the police on 101."

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 54 of June 10, email [email protected] quoting incident number 54 of June 10 in the subject line or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
