People from all walks of life are in with a chance to win a prestigious new award that celebrates those who make a difference to their community in South Kesteven.

More than 70 nominations are in the mix – so far – for the SK Community Awards, launched by SKDC to mark the amazing work carried out by the public through the pandemic.

There are eight categories to go for – and now is the time to submit your choice to be put forward in recognition of what they have achieved.

Cllr Annie Mason, Cabinet Member for People and Safer Communities, said: "I am incredibly proud to be part of this new initiative. So many people have stepped forward, often out of their comfort zone, to support others who are more vulnerable and make a real difference in their community.

"It's not just about the most talented or most able but also to identify and reward people who work behind the scenes. Often, they do it for the love of it without receiving any recognition so this is a fantastic chance to say thank you.

"This crucial contribution of volunteers and support groups has not stopped with the easing of lockdown, and despite the uncertain times we find ourselves in many will continue to help as an important part of our district's recovery.

"If you know of anyone who's done something wonderful during the past year or so, take a look at the categories and nominate them for this honour."

The awards are:

The Neil Smith 'Beyond the Call of Duty' Award: recognising exceptional actions

Lifetime Community Champion Award: for a life given to public service

Helping Hand Award: recognising individuals' actions in their community

Community Cultural Action Award: for enthusing and encouraging others in their creativity

Cleaner and Greener Award: demonstrating pride in local appearance and cleanliness

Community Wellbeing Champion Award: for helping mental and physical fitness

Business in the Community Award celebrating business community contributions

Inspirational Young Person Award: recognising contributions from under 25s Full details and to make a nomination: www.southkesteven.gov.uk/SKcommunityawards
