The start of the strawberry season in Grantham looks set to be the middle of next week.

The Syston Park Farm Shop and Cafe says the berries are now ripening in the warm sun.

Business owner Trish Clegg told Grantham Nub News: "They are slightly earlier than normal because of the fine weather we have been having."

Other fruits will soon be available to pick your own.

They include gooseberries, Tayberries, raspberries (mid-June) and blackberries.

The last of the fruit is normally over by the first week of August.

Trish says social distancing measures will be in place to help ensure safety.

The business is best noted for its cafe but during the lockdown period it has remained open serving essential food supplies.

"We have had the shop open for reduced hours. Business has been very good. People are supporting the small shops between their major supermarket shop."

Trish is looking forward to re-opening the cafe, but expects when the government finally allows this after July 4, customers may have to sit outside, she added.

The business, a few miles north of Grantham on the A607, is also noted for its Christmas Trees.
